"We can empower younger generations to do something about this global problem right here in our own backyards. We can each be powerhouses for sustainability." ~EECOM's Executive Director, Catriona MacGregor Glazebrook

The United States is one of the highest Carbon Dioxide producing nations on Earth. Too much Carbon Dioxide in our atmosphere is the primary cause for global warming. Based on a county initiated study completed by the Global Footprint Network, Marin County's residents and businesses greatly overuse electricity and other natural resources. If everyone used natural resources like Marin residents do there would need to be almost five Earths to accommodate our consumption level. With the tremendous success of Al Gore's film: "An Inconvenient Truth", many young people are concerned with global warming and want to do something about it.
Evan Brooks, Drake High School 10th grader,
received an award for his design & slogan.

EECOM launched a global warming message campaign open to Marin based middle school and high school students. Youth created slogans intended to educate local residents and businesses about their contribution to global warming, and simple steps that they can take to reduce their energy consumption.

On April 14, 2007, at the San Anselmo Step It Up event (sponsored by EECOM), Marin County Supervisor Charles McGlashan presented the winners of the Youth Campaign to Stop Global Warming with their awards.

Both Addie and Evan received $100 checks for themselves and $250 checks for their schools. The winning slogans and designs will continue to be used in public education materials for EECOM's Ecological Footprint Campaign—so keep your eyes peeled! We are so proud of both these youth both for their concern about global warming and for their lively and creative contributions to our countywide campaign. YOUTH ROCK!

Addie Weingard, Davidson Middle School 6th grader, created the slogan and worked with Evan Brooks on the design. The "Watch Your Step" artwork was also used in full-page ads in the Marin Independent Journal before April 14th, with calendar listings of all the Step It Up events in Marin.

The designs have been made into t-shirts, stickers, and posters. To order the t-shirts, email EECOM or call 415-485-4908 or order online via Paypal:
